Education
Alongside theatrical productions, Pickled Image has sustained and developed a strong and thriving educational strand which explores different elements to puppetry, whether its puppet making and design to puppet manipulation and character development. Workshops have been held in various schools and institutions in the UK ranging from Primary schools, Art Colleges, Museums, Theatres and Universities. Over the past six years, Pickled Image has provided a series of workshops for BA and MA Computer Visualisation and Animation students at National Centre for Computer Animation at Bournemouth University. The workshops have explored the art and science of puppetry, specifically, the observation and application of motion to both stylised/exaggerated and realistic characters. The Company has also collaborated with Professor Lucy Childs Senior lecturer in Computer Animation at Bournemouth University in research into Digital Performance Puppetry.
This project uses puppets and Motion Capture to create stylised, non-human motion capture data to animate virtual characters. Pickled Image has been collaborating with Lucy on the generation of puppet movement data, which can be mapped onto the virtual characters.
Pickled Image conduct workshops and have an educational show for children in Year 1.
